SUBJECT: [TT] Training Sessions 314.347A at 2-4pm Tue/Thu from 12 Jan

Thankyou for your interest in the sessions for Tournament of the Towns (TT), which will be in the Maths Boardroom 314.347A, which is just next to my office: 314.353. Here are directions for finding the room:

There is an online map at https://properties.curtin.edu.au/maps/.
Select the second tab: 'Bentley Parking Map'.
Then in `Please select a location' select: C15 - 1000615
You will see in purple above Building 309, Carpark C15 off Brand Drive
(the grey road that arcs up toward the Bus Station with 'No through road' marked on it next to Carpark C17).
This is a good place to be dropped off.

Note that since some building work is going on, one can't approach Carpark C15 from the north.
Your best approach is most likely to come via the Manning Road Entrance to the university,
and at the roundabout turn right (or as Sat-Nav will tell you 'take the 2nd exit') onto Brand Drive.

If your parent wants to come with you, I suggest parking in C16 or C9, and then walk through Carpark C15.
From Carpark 15, you will see a diagonal path leading away from a wheelchair symbol above Building 309.
This is a ramp that leads to a `tunnel' between what looks like two Buildings both numbered 314.
Go in the door that is in front of you and slightly to your left, from the end of the ramp;
this is an entrance into the 2nd level foyer of Building 314. Go up one level, to Level 3.
At this point you can just pick up the hand-set on the wall and call 3482 and I'll come and collect you, if I'm in my office.
Alternatively, turn right as you come out of the stair well or lift, and go through a glass door.
You can ask for directions at the roller-shutter just through the door on your left. That's actually Room 345.
The boardroom is Room 347A, but you are unlikely to locate it by that (the numbering is not very logical).
You will have more success locating my office: Room 353. Then 347A is the interior room opposite.

I had indicated that the sessions might have instead be running from 4:30-6:30pm, but the preference of time was 13 to 5 in favour of 2-4pm. So the sessions will run as originally proposed in the letter from 2-4pm. At the first session I will give each student a book of notes. I indicated in the letter that some mini i-lectures would be available for those who can't make the sessions. These and PDFs of the chapters of the book of notes referred to above are at this site, below.

Note that it is much more preferable that you attend the sessions if you can. I have not yet encountered a student who properly engages with the material, who doesn't come to live sessions. It seems to be much easier for a student to generate the discipline needed when they come to regular sessions.

Following this email, I will reply directly to the email you sent me.
