SUBJECT: [TT/AMO] No UWA Wed session next week, and TTowns Papers 1,8 Dec

Due to the AMT Awards being scheduled on Wednesday 21 November, there will be no TT session this Wednesday. I imagine I'll see some of you at the Awards, though disappointingly not as many of you as I would have liked, since not all prize-winners are invited.

Also the TT exams, are booked on two Saturdays 12-6pm in Blakers Lecture Theatre at UWA. They will be held on:

O Level Paper: Saturday 1 December 12n-6pm
A Level Paper: Saturday 8 December 12n-6pm

This turns out to be a week earlier than last year, but seems to fit in best with the School of Excellence. Those returning from School of Excellence on 1 December will need to do it on Sunday 2 December at Curtin 2-6pm. If that doesn't suit, let me know, and I'll see what I can work out. (Follow links for directions.)

If you are going to the Informatics School of Excellence, you will need to do the O paper on Friday 30 November at Curtin, and we'll need to organise a time, and do the A paper on Wednesday 12 December from 11:30-4:30 at UWA, and we'll need to organise a venue (probably Blakers LT).

It's more important than usual that you don't discuss the papers with anyone in another state. As far I know they will be sitting the papers at about the same time, but they might not be ... so please take care with that.

The following paragraphs, you will have read before ...

The O Level paper is a 4 hour paper: choose the slot that's convenient for you within the time between 12n and 6pm.

The A Level paper is a 5 hour paper: choose the slot that's convenient for you within the time between 12n and 6pm, i.e. you need to start between 12n and 1pm (less choice of time for this one).

Just remember: persistence, patience, self-belief are key ... just keep trying new ideas until you find an 'in' and then keep working at it, until you have a solution. Try to get at least a question completely out. You tend to get more for a complete question than for partially worked solutions to questions. It's best to start with the first question, and only abandon the question if you've spent an hour on it, and gotten nowhere. To get beyond a Participation, you need at least one question completely solved.

We'll discuss the O paper in the week following ... and hopefully that will help you feel better about it, when you have a go at the A paper.
