Mathematical Olympiads: Email of 2020-05-22

[AMO/TT] Monday sessions now Perth Mod students, only ... sorry

Sorry, there's a new edict ... I just received the following message:

Until they further relax restrictions in under three weeks can you ask students [not from Perth Mod] not to attend as government rules do not allow students from other schools to visit on grounds together with guest speakers.
Apparently, for ‘students from other schools’ I am a ‘guest speaker’ and for Perth Mod students I am ‘classified ... as a teacher’.

The message went on to say:

In 3 weeks I am sure they will lift this rule, there are harsh penalties.

Let's hope it really is ‘under 3 weeks’, and I'm sorry the sessions at UWA won't be back until end of July. The security staff are now watching and counting people coming onto campus. They started doing that this week.

You may have noticed that I have learned a little more CSS and introduced ‘(expand on) hover’ to the Olympiad webpage, making the structure far more apparent, and the page easier to navigate. Also, I have greatly extended the mini i-lectures, so now there is pretty much complete coverage of:

Also,

Some of the recording has been done on Mondays ... but there have been a few hiccups with that. The Toolchest Notes chapters have been recorded with a former Curtin student who was interested in Olympiad maths, on Tuesdays.

The next recordings planned are for:

If you want to see something else or want me to re-prioritise, particularly, if you normally come to UWA, or are now stopped from coming to Perth Mod ... please, just send me an email.

Two other things are planned:

The priority for updating of AMOsessions material is the Senior Contest, which is our next main competition. I'm guessing it will be held under normal conditions on 11 August, but the AMT website only has 2019 info.

Recently, I came across a fascinating youtubed i-lecture billed as Toy Models (from the London Mathematical Society). I think you might enjoy it.
